Literature Text

What a story that we could have told
A revolution that would have rocked the world
But the sun cycled through and nothing changed

You stomped out the flame before it could catch the world on fire
You told all your friends it was nothing but a minor thing
What else could I have done?

She pressed my lips and said this won't last long
I told her she tasted like summer and the difference between right and wrong
Then she put on her shoes and walked out

I found a moral in the short piece we wrote
Simply my best wasn't good enough
I tried to simplify the baroque
But it left me with me, not us

Not the right time, nor the right place
The last things I heard before you forgot my face
I just wish you could see the destruction in your path

Call it a mistake, or a lapse of judgment if it would please you
I'll call it a masterpiece that ended a bar too soon
Were you even listening?

I found a moral in the short piece we wrote
Simply my best wasn't good enough
I needed you to drop your ties and float
but you've left me captured, handcuffed
For when you wish a one night stand would have been something more
